Interview with Kamil Gajdziński!

11-01-2010

This wintertime Kamil Gajdziński dropped by RedSeaZone– a young and highly-talented man, about whom it can only get more noisy in the kite world.

RedSeaZone: Kamil, how was your training in RedSeaZone?

Kamil Gajdziński: New Year’s stay in RedSeaZone was for me a great sum up of last year. For 3 days there was wind for small kites. Two other days I spent wakeboarding, so it was no rest, just progress :D As the forecast was good for 3 days, I didn’t spare my health and was kiting 6 hours a day every day, which resulted in sore muscles and a fever :P Nevertheless after a four month break, even this couldn’t spoil my stay! After a week of training I learned flat 3 with wake, and blind judge 3, slim 5, grab unhooked and few smaller tricks with the kite :P  And this time, the nice gentlemen at the airport decided to give us a present and we didn’t have to pay anything for excess luggage.

RSZ: As it comes to summing up, tell us how 2009 had been for you – what did you accomplish with kitesurfing?

KG: 2009 was amazingly fruitful. First of all I learned a whole bunch of new tricks, beginning with handle pass - which I learned during the KiteJamboree ’09 – up to slim 5
or blind judge 3.  What is more I got really good results in Polish and international competitions (3rd place in overall juniors KPWT; 10th place in overall course racing). Last year was also great thanks to many other reasons, not necessarily linked with kitesurfing :D

RSZ: Let’s talk about the future now – how is looking 2010?

KG: My New Years resolution is to train as much as possible. I know it’s a bit monothematic, but I’m highly kite addicted :D I plan to spend at least one week each month with “forecast trainings”; to kite in Venezuela or Marocco and than come back
to RSZ to win the KiteJamboree 2010 ;D

RSZ: As you mentioned competitions – which ones would you like to participate in?

KG: I’ll open the season with the KiteJamboree, then I want to take part in Polish Kite Cup and in one of the World Cups :)

RSZ: So what’s your aim in training these days – what can we expect ‘by Kamil Gajdziński’ in competitions?

KG: Now I try to push the mobe! :D Besides that, the s-bend pass, front mobe and trials on switch manoeuvres :) With the end of this season I’d like to be able to perform back mobe pass to wrapped and quadruple handle pass :P

RSZ: So who’s Kamil Gajdziński’s kite Guru?

KG: Uuuu. I could write a book about it :D Księciu for sure, for the whole of his carrier
and because he taught me the most also Borsuk, Hadlow for style and Ruben for power :)

RSZ: Looks like you spend every single moment with kitesurfing – so how do you cope joining school and kite?

KG: I hear this question quite often, but no wonder.. the number of trips and absences
of usual competitor is really overwhelming.
Fortunately, my school - J.F. Kennedy secondary school - helps me with making up for my backlogs, and thanks to it I can practice more. Nevertheless when I’m away for trainings I spend every evening with books :D

RSZ: Last but not least, give us few HONEST words about RedSeaZone :]

KG: Exactly 2 years ago in RSZ I started my kite adventure, so this is the place to which I like to come back to sentimentally. But the most important thing is that the water here is flat and shallow with steady, side shore wind, it makes learning new tricks far more easier :D Besides that, El Gouna itself is an awesome place, in which you’ll find entertainment also during windless days!

RSZ: Thanks for the interview Kamil and see you soon!

KG: Thanks!
